Abstract
The objective of railway signalling is to increase the volume of traffic on the railway. Thus the role of signalling is essentially to ensure that as many trains as possible can run on a given infrastructure whilst ensuring that two trains do not arrive at the same place at the same time avoiding the single degree of freedom risk. The article looks on the fundamentals of signalling principles, the E&P signalling interface and the ETCS(European Train Control System).
