  • Abstract
The message filtering mechanism is important for controller area network (CAN), but sometimes there exist difficulties in manual design. In this paper, the idea of using genetic algorithm (GA) is put forward. As classical GA is not competent for this task, a new method called BDHGA (bi-level distributed hybrid genetic algorithm) is put forward, and the concept of extra filtering quality is introduced to evaluate the ability to filter the interfering messages from beyond the system which serves as an optimization degree of the filtering solutions. With the popular alone CAN controller SJA1000, a message filtering mechanism under CAN2.0A specification is realized for all the three situations, i.e. non-priorities, static priorities and dynamic priorities by BDHGA. The research work shows that BDHGA can search much more solutions fast, and the solutions can be realized can be well-optimized
