Abstract
This paper describes and analyzes the major technical hurdles that the deployment of 40G line rate transport systems faces in fiber optic telecommunications. A case study is used to study the network readiness for transmission at 40G. Experimental data are used together with a standardized model for verifying if the link is ready to transport 40G. Recommendations are provided following the conclusion of the analysis.
