Abstract
It is essential for the digital control system to get initial rotor position of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) to start the drive system. Basically, there are two methods of initial rotor position estimation, named pulse signal injection and sinusoidal carrier signal injection, which inject voltage/current into the motor windings to have rotor information. Based on the analysis of PMSM static starting torque, this paper presents a control strategy which can start PMSM without initial rotor position estimation. This scheme is simple, robust, and does not rely on the motor parameters. Theoretic analysis and experimental results have proved its validity.
