Abstract :
This paper proposes a system composed of a wind turbine generator system (WTGS) and superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) unit, in which SMES is controlled for smoothing the wind generator output power. A determination of power capacity of SMES unit which is sufficient for the smoothing control but as small as possible is very important problem. In this paper, an evaluation method for the determination of the power capacity is presented based on simulation analyses performed by PSCAD/EMTDC.
