  • Abstract
New service management paradigms, protocols and control mechanisms are required for supporting today´s Internet service heterogeneity and integration while providing consistent quality of service (QoS). Within service management, admission control has been recognized as a convenient mechanism to provide high-quality communication by ensuring resources availability. It represents a meaning in fulfilling the contracted service level agreement (SLA) between the user and the network provider. This paper provides a thorough analysis on different classification approaches for admission control techniques, while identifying their characteristics, differences and analogies. It gives a more detailed analysis on the measurement-based admission control, and introduces an admission control approach based on measurements. The performance of this algorithm is illustrated through simulation results.
