Abstract :
It is important to measure each kind of charged particle individually in radiation fields because each particle has different characteristic in human body. We propose a method of charged particle identification using difference in track length detected by a two-dimensional position sensitive gas detector. This system consists of a multi-wire detection head, amplifier-shaper- discriminator circuits, a logic circuit for calculation and encoding of charged particle track image. We report the coincidence measurements between the two-dimensional image and pulse height distribution of alpha particles. This system exhibited the good proportional relationship between the track length and energy of alpha particles. We performed the preliminary measurements of the particle discrimination. The events identification between alpha particle and proton emitted from Al(n,p)/Al(n,alpha) reaction were obviously exhibited.
