Abstract :
A quantitative study of a 2.45 GHz RFID system that can find application in proximity location sensing for short-range tracking of items has been carried out. In this paper, results and analysis of measurements conducted in an open environment using read-only battery-assisted passive tags are reported. Comparisons are drawn from measurements taken with the RFID reader, which uses a linearly polarized antenna, mounted either horizontally or vertically for respective polarization. Of particular interest is the investigation of the performance of a new type of RFID tag that uses a rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) in comparison with other tags using slot and patch antennas. The tags with dielectric resonator antennas can be mounted on metal surfaces.
