Abstract
In this paper, the principles of uniform circular array (UCA) adaptive beamforming (ABF) based on narrowband radio-frequency signals are introduced. A UCA is composed of a number of uniformly distributed identical half-wavelength dipoles. The least mean squares (LMS) algorithm is applied to antenna beamforming in UCA. It is a method that exploits the array correlation matrix and uses previous samples when estimating the gradient at the nth iteration. The performance of smart antenna is deteriorated by the mutual coupling between its elements. Consequently, the ABF method produces inaccurate results unless it is taken into account.
