Abstract
Measured and simulated results are presented describing the performance of a wideband printed monopole antenna over a tunable electromagnetic band gap substrate (EBG). The EBG consists of square elements loaded with varactor diodes and produces a continuously tunable frequency range from 800 MHz to 2000 MHz. When the wideband microstrip monopole is placed over the EBG the complete antenna is tunable from 900 MHz to 1650 MHz.
