Abstract
Use of photonic bandgap (PBG) structure is becoming attractive in electromagnetic and antenna community. This paper presents a design strategy to achieve higher bandwidth for the tapered slot antenna (TSA) on substrates with PBG. First, the angle of taper and the radius of impedance matching circle are optimized to get higher bandwidth with the tapered slot antenna. Then the photonic bandgap (PBG) structure is designed to achieve the optimal bandwidth over the band 4.6-8.6 GHz. This idea has been verified by finite element program. Simulated results on the return loss as well as E- and H-plane patterns are provided.
