Abstract
The use of rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) suitable for 2.45 GHz microwave RFID application on metallic platforms is investigated. Simulated and measured return losses for the RDRA are presented. The read range performance of a backscatter RFID tag, using the RDRA with horizontal polarization, is investigated in cluttered and uncluttered indoor environments. It is found that in both environments, the probability of tag detection gradually reduces with distance from the RFID reader.
