Abstract
The continued scaling-down of MOS transistors dramatically increases the capabilities of single-chip integrated circuits. However, to meet the needs of the VLSI computers to be developed in the next ten years, other features of the evolving VLSI technology must be given increased attention. This paper discussed several technological characteristics and functional capabilities that are particularly useful for the construction of computer systems and which are currently lacking or inadequately developed.
