Abstract
This paper aims performance improvement of quadratic-shaped reflector antenna by using backscattering technique to achieve efficient coverage of service areas. Physical theory of diffraction (PTD) is applied to calculate the radiation characteristics of proposed reflector antenna. The optimized feed distance is calculated from the aperture efficiency and has investigated the influence of the feed position on the HPBW, coverage area, and gain performance. The quadratic reflector antenna prototype is designed and developed to confirm the validity of this approach. The maximum gain and HPBW was measured in satisfactory agreement with the numerical predictions provided by the PTD.
