  • Abstract
A VXI Message-based Tool (VXI-MBT) has been recently designed by the authors [10]. VXI-MBT makes easier the transformation of specific user’s electronics into VXI message-based device controlled by SCPI. The tool provides complete VXI bus interface that releases the designer from studying complicated details of IEEE 488.2 and VXI 3.0 standards as well as the delicate SCPI specification. The paper presents how a specific electronics can be transformed into 100% VXI message-based device. The VME card SIMCON 3.1 has been chosen as a typical example. It implements the RF-gun controller for FLASH accelerator [2]. The example mentioned exhibits a process of SCPI trees and device driver evaluation. It also underlines the advantages of VXI bus trigger and interrupts signals. The direct access to an optional fast memory decreases critical communication time.
