Abstract
A computational and experimental investigation was carried out in an electromagnetically stirred molten aluminum. The molten metal was contained in a cylindrical vessel made of stainless steel. The vessel was positioned in front of a linear induction machine. The free-surface deformation was calculated using numerical simulation with ANSYS and FLUENT and was compared to experimental observations made on a laboratory-scale installation.
