Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are used for various pervasive and ubiquitous applications. As WSNs consist of a large number of nodes that are deployed in remote and inaccessible places, there is a need for realistic power consumptions model that can be used to estimate the network life time, connectivity, and coverage. In this work, a discrete radio model is used to calculate more realistic power consumption and to determine the connectivity between sensor motes. We analyze a discrete power dissipation model to investigate performance as mote density decreases, as well as in the design of a real sensor network deployment.
