Abstract
The allocated spectrum of 7 GHz (57-64 GHz) makes it likely that a worldwide Ultra Wideband (UWB) standard at the frequency range of 60 GHz will emerge. A main challenge for UWB transmission at bandwidth B > 500 MHz is to estimate the possibly very extended impulse response of the multipath channel. As an alternative to traditional pilot-based channel estimation we propose an iterative blind channel estimator that exploits redundancy introduced by the channel code. We investigate the desktop channel scenario proposed by the task group 802.15(3c) and show that the proposed blind receiver performs very well for such channels, almost reaching the performance of receiver with perfect knowledge of the channel impulse response.
