  • Abstract
    Electric field optimization is the key task for vacuum circuit breakers design. By the electric field calculation, the isopotential of a semi-plane flat electrode with infinitesimal small thickness is almost hemicycle, and the figure of an actual shield should be what the isopotential rotates around its shaft for a circular course, but not other figures. Three common figures of middle shield have been calculated with electric field calculating software, by which the conclusion is validated. The radius of round-corner of shield has an optimization value. In this way, more symmetrical electric field in vacuum interrupters is obtained and its peak value appears smaller.
