Abstract :
A narrow pulse generating system is designed for versatile communication applications, such as pulse modulation of UWB. Multiple parameters of time and frequency domain of the pulse generated are alterable. Special mechanisms are introduced to achieve very precise phase alignment and very fine pulse width adjustment, which are both better than 10 ps. A large dynamic range of frequency can be synchronized from Giga Hertz throughout to DC. The system employs specific filter to rectify the pulse with proper spectrum corresponding to the pulse shape desired by certain utilization, and applies high reliability wide band GaAs HBT amplifier with changeable gain to magnify pulse at fast slew rate of edges. Analysis on system performance with application example is carried out.
