Abstract
Grid is a new type of infrastructure that provides predictable, consistent and uniform access to geographically distributed resources such as computers, data repositories, scientific instruments, and advanced display devices. Grid Portal (GP) is an interface to a Grid system. Grid portals have emerged as a high-level tool for application users to take advantage of the Grid infrastructures effectively. This paper proposes a novel framework of generic GP which aims to provide non-expert users with an efficient and transparent way to access the Grid resources and utilize Grid services provided by Grid infrastructures. Users can interact with the Grids through an intuitive interface from which they can submit and monitor jobs, view files, subscribe and utilize services and so on. The notification services are firstly introduced to the development of GP and the security of the GP is also taken into considerations. The framework of GP can be used as the foundation to develop GPs for different communities and scientific disciplines.
