Abstract
This paper reviews the increasing interaction between the energy crisis and technological developments. Specifically the focus is on the need of control engineering to provide optimum results on industrial production and its quality, under the constraints of environment and energy resources. Some examples of the effects of limited energy resources on industry are given along with the contributions of control engineering in terms of energy savings, increased quality and productivity.
