Abstract
In a fed batch fermentation, the optimal feeding policy consists of nonsingular and singular arcs. The determination of the onset of singular arc feeding is crucial. To determine this, accurate estimation of the parameter and state variables is required. In this paper, the extended Kalman filter was used for this purpose. The extended Kalman filtering was performed in the best section of data. The information indices were used to locate the best section. The fed batch fermentation for the production of ¿-amylase was chosen as a model system. The dynamic equations contain seven parameters which are not known accurately a priori.
