  • Abstract
The problems of modeling diauxic growth and optimizing enzyme production are addressed. A cybernetic growth model is presented which is simpler than other cybernetic models but can still adequately predict available experimental data. The model is then used to study the optimization of inducible enzyme synthesis. The model predicts that growth on a single substrate is not always the best mode of operation but rather growth on two substrates may improve inducible enzyme productivity.
