Abstract
This paper attempts to identify time-varying control as a viable and practical alternative to the "fixed versus adaptive control" dilemma. In the process, it provides for the first time: a. Doubly-coprime and inner-outer factorizations for linear time-varying (LTV) systems with finite-dimensional uniform realizations. b. Conditions under which linear and nonlinear time-varying (LTV, NTV) control laws achieve, in a sense, the same quality of control for LTV plants.
