Abstract
This paper discusses simulation of structural response of multi-flexible-body systems by linearized flexible motion combined with nonlinear rigid motion. Advantages and applicability of such an approach for accurate simulation with reduced computational costs and turnaround times are briefly described, restricting attention to a control design environment. Requirements for updating the linearized flexibility model to track large angular motions are discussed, several update approaches are compared, and an approach that improves on previously published methods is recommended. A simple system undergoing large rotations is used for numerical illustration.
