Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) and object-oriented techniques are applied to the development of XIMKON, an expert software system for simulation and control engineering of dynamic processes. As an enhancement to a broad FORTRAN base of control design tools, XIMKON incorporates the principles of AI planners and advanced user interface technologies in an effort to automate the procedures involved in modeling, analysis and synthesis of control systems. This paper describes the current state of XIMKON and discusses early results of its implementation for process control applications.
