Abstract
Most mechanical positioning systems exhibit a strongly nonlinear friction which may cause stick-slip limit cycles. This effects can be kept within acceptable limits by using sophisticated mechanical design concepts and elements. This paper investigates an alternative approach to avoid such limit cycles or excessive steady state errors by using control engineering tools only.
