Abstract
Sealed lead acid batteries have been under evaluation by British Telecom for the past 7 years. This evaluation has not been confined to the Laboratory, but has included significant product performance evaluation under actual service conditions both in the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and at customer based PABX installations. This paper will discuss important areas of operational experience in a telecommunications environment, and the manner in which some of the data has been used to suggest product improvements and provide users with a long term confidence in the use of this relatively new technology.
