Abstract :
As the complexity of communications systems increases, so too do the demands made on the associated power supplies. This is true not only in relation to the stability of the output voltages within a wide load range, but also with regard to efficiency, volume and costs. The demands for high accuracy of different output voltages provided by a single power supply unit can only be met by direct control of each ouput circuit. Advances in the development of amorphous magnetic material mean that magnetic amplifiers can now be used as low-loss control device at the higher frequencies of 20 to 100 kHz, too. This circuit principle offers benefits in secondary regulator application compared with linear or switch mode semiconductor circuits.
