Abstract
With the expected increase in the quantity and types of message traffic in the tactical area, flexible message communication techniques must be employed in order to adapt to the user´s needs. This paper presents an architectural overview detailing the types of message traffic that must be handled in the tactical area and explains the enhanced survivability achieved by handling this traffic through voice and message switching networks. Detailed discussions explain the protocols that may be used, how the traffic flow may be controlled throughout the network, the flexibility that can be attained, and how messages can be delivered in an environment with circuit noise or failed/destroyed equipment.
