Abstract

Telecommunication services are based on the circuit and packet switching systems today. Packet switching systems can provide new services better than circuit switching systems. In this paper we pay attention to services defined in 3GPP and UMTS-forum while studying telephony service evolution. Then we survey services provided by large operators in the world. Finally we find out that some content services such as movie/music downloading, email, Internet connection for Web browsing, video sending/receiving via SMS and MMS, connection to TV channels and gaming services are very popular.
