Abstract :
During the energisation of large power transformers high inrush currents are drawn, which can lead to adverse transient power quality effects, such as voltage dips, on the source network. A detailed PSCAD model has been developed to study the energisation of a large generator step up transformer from the associated high voltage network under various network configurations. The model includes the simulation of transformer remanent flux. This paper discusses the basis for the study, presents simulation results and the expected impacts on various configurations of the source network. A comparison of the simulation results to actual energisation data is presented.
