Abstract
The central problem presenting in current Chinese character glyph descriptions is the standard character set canpsilat cover all possible Chinese characters, some particular variants of characters that are ldquounifiedrdquo also canpsilat describe and display. As a database language based on XML, Character Description Language (CDL) can help resolve both of the difficulties just mentioned. This paper presents the key features and syntax of the language, and discusses some of its applications, especially to learning and recognizing Chinese characters.
