Abstract
We developed a novel INS assisted bit synchronization algorithm for an Ultra-Tightly integrated GPS receiver. This algorithm computes an estimate of the bit energy for all possible bit boundary candidates and chooses that candidate which maximizes the energy. It uses INS assisted extended Kalman filters to track and remove the error in the carrier parameters. Computer simulations show a superior performance of this bit synchronization at very weak signal powers. The bit synchronization achieves a high bit edge detection rate and optimal bit error rate even at very low power signals.
