Abstract
This paper presents a novel scheme for delay-limited video transmission over energy-constrained mobile ad-hoc network (MANET), in which we jointly consider the interaction between the source encoding and network transport control. Firstly, a flexible multiple description coding (MDC) method based on shifted 3D SPIHT algorithm is developed to generate variable sub-streams according to the network conditions; secondly, the priority mechanism is introduced to partition the source video data and transmit the encoded sub-streams, which aims at reducing network overload and increasing the lifetime of the network; thirdly, in order to improve the quality of service as well as reduce the consumed energy, an energy-delay aware multiple route dynamic source routing (ED-MRDSR) protocol is realized by guaranteeing the highest priority parts of the bitstream are received. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed joint scheme.
