Abstract
Because of node mobility and power limitation, routing protocols play an important role in Ad Hoc networks. Many routing protocols such as the Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol have been developed by many researchers, but most of the research is based on simulation. In this paper, we implement an Ad Hoc network testbed based on the AODV routing protocol and find that it takes about 1.7s to rebuild the route after a link along the active route is broken. The time is too long for some application, such as the real time services of voice and video. Based on analysis of experiments, we propose a novel algorithm to detect link failure using link signal strength. The analysis of the algorithm shows that it needs only about 200ms to update the route.
