  • Abstract
The existing approaches for providing global Internet connectivity for mobile ad hoc networks often cause low packet delivery ratio and high routing overhead. In this paper, a novel approach to Internet connectivity for mobile ad hoc networks is proposed. This approach bases on Identity/Location split, which separates the location of the host from its identity. Both of the mobile ad hoc network nodes and Internet nodes communicate with each other using their unique identities. The IP address functions only as location. Mobile ad hoc network nodes can easily connect to Internet without understanding of IP addressing and routing within Internet under this approach. This approach has higher packet delivery ratio and lower routing overhead compared to other approaches.
