  • Abstract
    The IEEE 802.16 standard meets the worldwide demand for a broadband wireless access system to enjoy high-speed and easy link to the Internet. Except for those fundamental functions and mechanisms described in the standard, there leave a lot of things for developers to design for high efficiencies, especially providing QoS (Quality of Service) in this BWA system. In this paper, we first introduce the general structure of the MAC layer in IEEE 802.16 standard. Then we propose a design of a software platform for the MAC layer and apply some simple optional mechanisms in this simulation platform. Moreover, we explore the possibility of testing more complex algorithms based on this platform to better serve the QoS of IEEE 802.16 system.
