Abstract
Distributed simulation enables participants situated in different geographical locations to share a common virtual world, which is called a Distributed Virtual Environment (DVE). Among the different research topics concerned with DVE, there is a current trend of Using Interest Management in the DVE. In this paper we discuss the distributed Virtual Environment systems with large shared state and addresses issues related to interest management and dynamic load balancing. It identifies the efficient partitioning and distribution of the shared state as a key problem in such simulations and outlines a hierarchical multi-level interest management scheme that facilitates dynamic load balancing.
