Abstract

Virtual city is an important part of the digital city, and it is an important way to show the information of three-dimensional of a city. Acting as the virtual environment platform for the "global information system" and the development of digital cities, virtual city plays a core role in urban planning, real estate, community management, as well as city tourism, urban construction, and so on. VRML is an opening standard for describing the interactive 3D multimedia on Internet and sharing the virtual world. This paper does some research on the application of VRML in constructing virtual city. It discusses the basic function of VRML and the basic frame of virtual world based on VRML, and also gives an application instance of virtual city scene. Finally, it summarizes some technology and methods in constructing virtual city with VRML.
