Abstract :
In this work, a low power LC voltage controlled oscillator ( VCO) at a tunable range of 5.07 GHz to 5.77 GHz for ultra wide band application (UWB) based on orthogonal frequency divison multiple access (OFDM) has been designed. A 90 nm CMOS technology, integrated inductors and inversion MOS varactors have been used. An analytical model of phase noise in LC VCO has been done. The VCO finally designed generates a clean and low-jitter clock signal consuming 2.7 mA with a 1.2 V power supply and a simulated phase noise of - 92 dBc/Hz@3 Mz offset frequency. Those results show that a good trade-off between phase noise and power consumption was reached. The oscillator meets the demanding phase noise requirements of UWB application based on OFDM.
