Abstract :
A new high voltage electric energy meter which integrates the voltage sensor, current sensor, metering device, display unit and remote communication unit is presented. The line voltages and currents are converted into voltage and current signals (in mV and mA) by the specially designed sensors. The converted signals are fed into a multiplier where a DC voltage proportional to the average line power is produced. The DC voltage is converted into a series of pulses by a v/f converter. The electric energy is then measured by counting the number of pulses in a certain period of time. The advantages of the meter have been proved through field operation results with comparison to existing metering technologies and. It can reduce fault probability, save energy and fuel as well as effectively prevent electricity pilferage. The measurement error of the meter can be uniquely determined. The cost of the new equipment is also significantly lower.
