Abstract :
Currently, there are about 5,300 kilometers of medium voltage bare overhead (MVBOH) line system and about 3,300 kilometers of medium voltage aerial bundled cable system (MV ABC) in TNB Distribution Network. The MVBOH line system had been in the distribution network since the 1940´s to transfer power from substations over long distances to load centers that are usually in the rural or sub-urban areas. However, with Malaysia having an isokeraunic level of 200 thunder days per year, the MVBOH line system had to face with reliability challenges. On top of that, animals and vegetations had also caused significant interruptions to the MVBOH line system.
