Abstract
A major flood disaster happened in Dongjiang Reservoir of Hunan Province in 15th July, 2006, which was brought about by a 500-year-return-period strong storm Bilis. The storm induced disastrous landslide and mudflows around Dongjiang reservoir area, leading to major losses of property and human lives. An in-depth investigation of the process of the floody storm and damage to Haoshan village which locates near the most seriously damaged reservoir bank was made. The survey result and the concrete causes of damage to Haoshan village were analyzed. Lessons from Bilis´s Disaster is helpful to the prevention of similar disaster.
