Abstract
The "Sagrada Familia in Ice" was unveiled in Juuka, Finland, 24 January 2015. The ice sculpture is a joint project between students of the Eindhoven University of Technology, municipality of Juuka and a group of partners and sponsors. The design of the structure is based on the famous cathedral Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. It includes several towers, the highest of which will reach over 30m. Such soaring heights require ???reinforced ice???: by mixing wood fibres with plain ice, a stronger and longer lasting material called ???pykrete??? is created. A mixture of textiles and rope structures is used in combination with the pykrete. The Eindhoven team was in charge of the construction, which started at the end of December 2014.
