  • Abstract
A novel FBG sensing head geometry with half corroded by hydrofluoric acid and half kept intact for strain-temperature discrimination has been proposed. Utilizing different diameters of two halves of the gratings, different strain sensitivities are achieved (≈50% difference) while temperature sensitivities remain the same. The maximum experimental errors obtained were within ±5.49 µε and ±1.6 °C, respectively. The design has not only realized the simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain, but also obtained the temperature insensitive measurement.
