Abstract
In this work, we present detailed numerical analysis of photonic band gap formation in one-dimensional photonic crystals where we have studied the influence of alternative layer thickness and refractive indices on the centre wavelength and the width of the photonic band gap for both TE and TM polarizations. Numerical results reveal almost linear shift in centre with associated increase in bandwidths, towards the higher wavelength region with increase in the layer-width. The present study shows a promise for tunable photonic devices based on one dimensional photonic crystal structures where air-holes embedded in high-index substrate can be infiltrated with thermo-responsive liquids. The overlap of photonic band gap region for both TE and TM polarizations predicts the polarization independent behavior of the proposed device.
