Abstract
The contribution of the sea surface in monostatic radar echoes is studied both theoretically and experimentally. The electromagnetic response of a rough surface depends on its shape, its dielectric characteristics, and antennas characteristics and positions. Measurements acquired with a monostatic microwave scatterometer installed above a wave tank, in which controlled swells are generated, are compared with simulation results obtained by two electromagnetic models, based on the Physical Optics approximation and the Method of Moments.
