Abstract :
The design of a monolithic mask-programmable analog fuzzy logic controller in CMOS or BiCMOS technology is presented. Due to a parallel architecture the speed and the accuracy of the controller is independent of the implemented rule set or configuration. The elementary building blocks, i.e. the membership function circuits, the minimum and maximum circuits and the defuzzifier, are described and the theoretical considerations validated with measurements. The small chip area of the basic building blocks makes the construction of a monolithic analog single chip controller feasible. A complete fuzzy controller with two inputs and nine programmable rules has been fabricated in a 3 ¿m CMOS technology. Measured data show the output characteristic of the realized network.
